FROM YOUR COLLECTION TO YOUR FLASH DRIVE

About the Process

A shoebox of photographs, a well-loved album, or a tote filled with pictures and home videos, this is the place to start.

01

Choose your memories—and how much preparation to do.

You can bring your whole collection or a portion of it as-is: a shoebox, an album, or a tote of mixed items. Sorting your photographs into the groups and order you want will provide more meaningful organization for you and may reduce preparation costs. This is not necessary if your focus is solely on digital preservation. Extra work such as album or frame removal and substantial sorting is Custom Care at $30/hour. Removing photos from albums ahead of time will avoid those charges. We’ll discuss that work and its cost before proceeding.

Photos in albums are scanned in album order. Loose shoebox photographs are grouped into like-sized stacks for scanning, so their sequence may change. We won’t know the people, places, or occasions in your photos; your labels and grouping help tell that story. If a particular order matters, please tell us so we can agree on a practical approach.

02

Explore at your own pace.

Use Price Calculator to try different services and quantities and find a collection that fits your budget. Add a few favorites, change your mind, or see what a larger project might cost. There’s no obligation, no payment, and no contact information required to explore.

Your selections can be saved in this browser on this device so you can step away and return later. Private browsing, clearing browser data, or changing devices may prevent your selections from carrying over. Nothing is sent to Relic until you submit an order request.

03

Send a request when you’re ready.

Review your selections and choose how you’d prefer to be contacted. We will review the request, confirm it or suggest revisions, and respond to discuss pricing, availability, and how to transfer your collection. The estimate is a starting point; final quantities and any additional preparation will be confirmed.

04

Your collection stays yours.

When your items arrive, we will inventory them and label them for tracking as needed. Your collection will be kept safe and separate from other clients’ materials. Agreed groups and labels will be kept together. Loose photographs may be regrouped by size for scanning, as discussed with you.

05

Pick up your originals—and your digital memories.

Your photographs and videos will be delivered as organized digital files on a small, portable flash drive, either supplied by you or purchased from Relic. You’ll pay at pickup and receive all your originals, with agreed groups kept together, along with your digital copies. Preserving your memories doesn’t mean giving up the originals.

06

Enjoy them. Share them. Keep a backup.

Your digital files make it easier to revisit favorite moments and share copies with family. The drive can be used with compatible computers and many tablets and phones, including supported iPhones. Some devices need an adapter or a suitable app. Tell us what you plan to use, and we can discuss the connection you’ll need.

Keep another copy of your digital files on a separate drive or a trusted backup service. A flash drive is a convenient way to carry your memories, but it should not be your only copy.

THE PERSON BEHIND RELIC

About Relic Digital Preservation

Hi, I’m Gregg!

Relic Digital Preservation grew from my work digitizing my own family’s photographs and home videos. My focus was simply preserving and protecting decades of photos and home videos against loss, damage, and age. As I worked through all of those photos and cassettes, boxes and totes, and collections contributed from other friends and family, I learned how much easier it became to revisit and share the moments they held. I started Relic Digital Preservation to provide others with the same protection and a simple way to enjoy and share their favorite memories.

A collection can feel like a big project before you begin. Troves of archived materials from another generation can be overwhelming. I have experienced several of these collections and would gladly accept yours for digitization. Maybe you’d prefer to start small and that’s great too! You could start with a single album or a shoe box of loose photos. You have options and we can talk through what you have, what you’d like to preserve, and a manageable place to start.

I know that these collections are irreplaceable. I will treat your memories with care, respect the grouping and preparation we agree on, and return your originals when the work is complete. My goal is to ensure your memories are preserved and make it easier for you to enjoy and share those memories. I look forward to serving you!
